Setup



Set up your PlayStation 3
Setup and configure your PlayStation 3, install any desired apps such as Netflix or Amazon.
Connect Harmony and PlayStation 3
Once connected, you'll be able to set up and use Activities which include your PlayStation 3.

Add PlayStation 3 to your Harmony setup

  1. Select MENU, then Harmony Setup > Add/Edit Devices & Activities > DEVICES.
  2. Select DEVICES and then press the ADD DEVICE button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select ENTERTAINMENT DEVICE and enter manufacturer, Sony and model number PlayStation 3.

Creating a Play PS3 Activity and Bluetooth pairing

  1. Once added, Harmony will prompt you to create an Activity. Select Yes.
  2. Continue through the series of questions to build your Play Game Activity.
  3. Once you have selected your devices and inputs, Harmony will prompt you to Bluetooth pair Harmony and PlayStation.
    1. Using your PS3 game controller, navigate to the PS3 home screen.
    2. Select Settings > register BD REMOTE CONTROL.
    3. Confirm pairing and select Yes when prompted to register.
  4. Once paired, the Harmony app will continue the setup and be able to control your game console.
  1. Select the Devices tab on the left side of the screen.
  2. Select the Add device button.
  3. Enter the manufacturer Sony and model number PlayStation 3.

Creating a Play Game Activity

  1. Select the Activities tab on the left side of the screen.
  2. Select the Add Activity button.
  3. Select the Play a Game Activity type and select Next.
  4. Continue through the series of questions to build your Activity.
  5. Once complete, click Sync in the upper-right corner to update your remote.

Pairing Harmony and PlayStation

  1. Using either your touchscreen Harmony remote, or the Harmony app, launch your Play Game Activity.
  2. Harmony will prompt you to initiate Bluetooth pairing.
    1. Using your PS3 game controller, navigate to the PS3 home screen.
    2. Select Settings > Devices > Bluetooth Devices.
    3. Select Harmony Keyboard, then Yes when prompted to register this Bluetooth device.
  3. Once paired, Harmony will be able to control your game console.
Notice

After creating an Activity with your PlayStation 3, you'll need to start that Activity using your Harmony hub‑based remote or the Harmony app in order to go through a one-time Bluetooth pairing process.

Control

Harmony controls

  • Control icon lists commonly used PlayStation buttons.
  • Gestures allows you to control your Activity using simple swipe gestures over your phone screen. For example, swiping up/down will change your volume and left/right can rewind and fast-forward.

Amazon

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Amazon app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, Fast-Forward and Rewind commands work.

Amazon does not permit keyboard text entry and only allows for direction pad navigation of their on-screen keyboard.

Netflix

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Netflix app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, Fast-Forward and Rewind commands work. Netflix allows you to move a frame forward or backward using the direction left and right arrows.

Text entry is possible using the Harmony app.

YouTube

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the YouTube app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, Fast-Forward and Rewind commands work. YouTube allows you to navigate between videos using the Direction Right and Left commands.

Text entry is possible using the Harmony app.

Browser

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the web browser.

Media Keys are not used within the Browser app.

Text entry is possible using Harmony Smart Keyboard or Harmony app.

Blu-ray Disc

While on the Disc Menu, a double press on the PS button is required before PS3 will accept commands from other remotes or keyboards. Once done, Harmony can control Blu-ray playback.


Direction Keys will navigate the Blu-ray menu.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, Previous Chapter, Next Chapter, Fast Forward and Rewind commands work.

Other apps

The behavior of other apps may vary, and some apps can only be controlled using the Sony PlayStation 3 game controller. Apps known not to work without the PS3 controller are Hulu, HBO GO, Sony Media Player, MLB.TV, NHL GameCenter, NBA Game Time, PlayStation Vue, Crackle, Epix, Vuze, Live Events Viewer, and Spotify.

Customize


Adjust the physical buttons on your remote

Harmony has already optimized the buttons on your remote; however you can further customize these buttons depending on your preference.

Add, remove, or rename commands on your remote's screen

Harmony displays commands specific to your Play Game Activity on your remote's screen. You can add, remove, or rename them.

Customize Harmony app buttons

You can view common PS3 commands on your phone or tablet screen. You can add, remove, or rearrange these commands.

Set your own swipe gestures

By default, swiping up or down on the gestures screen will change volume. There are 22 gestures in total, view and customize them from the app.


Notice

PlayStation 3 will enter rest mode when you press the Off button on either your remote or Harmony app, Harmony doesn't allow this setting to be disabled.

Setup

Adding PlayStation 3 to your Harmony setup

Notice

Harmony Express can only be used to power on and off your PlayStation 3 and cannot be used to navigate through media or select content.

  1. Launch the Harmony Express app and tap Edit Setup.
  2. Next, tap + to perform a Wi‑Fi scan, and select your device.
    • If your device isn't found, ensure it's on the same Wi-Fi network as Harmony Express.
    • If you still have issues, reboot your device and router then try again.
  3. Tap Continue and follow the on-screen prompts.

Control

Voice

You can use your voice to send commands such as turn on, turn off, and more. Tap What to say in the Harmony Express app to see sample commands for your device. Launching apps using your voice is not supported for this device.

Remote

Although Harmony has already mapped default commands to your remote buttons, you have the ability to assign custom commands to them. For more information, see: Customizing physical buttons on your remote

Amazon

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Amazon app.

Netflix

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work. Netflix allows you to move a frame forward or backward using the direction left and right arrows.

Hulu

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Hulu app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work. Hulu allows you to skip 10 seconds forward or back using the direction left and right arrows.

YouTube

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the YouTube app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work. YouTube allows you to navigate between videos using the Direction Right and Left commands.

Browser

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Browser app.

Media Keys are not used within the Browser app.

Integration details

Harmony Express remotes Hub‑based remotes

Harmony Hub pairs and controls PlayStation 3 using your home Wi‑Fi network. Please ensure your PlayStation 3 is connected to the same home network as your Harmony hub. Your Harmony hub and PlayStation 3 must be within 15 feet, or 5 meters, of each other. However, they do not require direct line of site.

Harmony Express pairs and controls PlayStation 3 using your home Wi‑Fi network. Please ensure your PlayStation 3 is connected to the same home network as your Harmony blaster. Your Harmony blaster and PlayStation 3 must be within 15 feet, or 5 meters, of each other. However, they do not require direct line of site.
