Harmony experience with Nexus Player

It's compatible with Harmony Express and hub‑based products

Setup

Set up your Nexus Player
Set up your Nexus Player and install the apps you'd like to use (e.g., Netflix, Hulu+, Plex).
Connect Harmony to Nexus Player
Once connected you may use Harmony to control your Nexus Player and trigger Activities in which it's included.

Add PlayStation 3 to your Harmony setup

  1. Launch the Harmony app.
  2. Select MENU, then Harmony Setup > Add/Edit Devices & Activities > Devices.
  3. Select the ADD DEVICE button at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select SCAN FOR WI‑FI DEVICES and Harmony will search for any connected Nexus Player Hubs on your home Wi‑Fi network.
  5. When prompted, set up an Activity to user this device. We recommend creating a WATCH TV Activity.
  6. Select your Activity name, icon, devices and appropriate inputs as guided by the wizard.
  7. When asked to perform BLUETOOTH PAIRING, press the circular pair button on the bottom of your Nexus Player.
  8. Harmony will now be able to navigate and control your device.
  1. Launch the MyHarmony desktop software and sign into your account.
  2. Select your Harmony product from the Remote Gallery screen.
  3. Select the Devices tab on the left side of the screen, then the Scan for devices button near the center of the page.

  1. You will be prompted to connect your Harmony to your computer with the provided USB cable.
  2. Harmony will scan your home Wi‑Fi network for Nexus Player.
  3. Once complete, we recommend creating a Watch TV type of Activity so you may control your Nexus Player.
  4. Sync your remote and launch your Activity using the Harmony app.
  5. When prompted to perform Bluetooth pairing, press the circular pair button on the bottom of your Nexus Player.
  6. Harmony will now be able to navigate and control your device.

Control

The Nexus Player remote, Harmony remotes, Smart Keyboard and the Harmony app are able to control the Android apps in a similar way.

Netflix

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Netflix app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work. Netflix allows you to move a frame forward or backward using the direction left and right arrows.

Text entry is possible using Harmony Smart Keyboard or the Harmony app.

Hulu

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Hulu app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work. Hulu allows you to skip 10 seconds forward or back using the direction left and right arrows.

Text entry is possible using Harmony Smart Keyboard or the Harmony app.

YouTube

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the YouTube app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work.

Text entry is possible using Harmony Smart Keyboard or the Harmony app.

Plex

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Plex app.

Media Keys such as Play, Pause, Stop, FastForward and Rewind commands work.

Text entry is possible using Harmony Smart Keyboard or the Harmony app.

Customize


Adjust the physical buttons on your remote

Harmony has already optimized the buttons on your remote; however you can further customize these buttons depending on your preference.

Add, remove, or rename commands on your remote's screen

Harmony displays commands specific to your Watch TV Activity on your remote's screen. You can add, remove, or rename them.

Customize Harmony app buttons

You can view common Nexus Player commands on your phone or tablet screen. You can add, remove, or rearrange these commands.

Set your own swipe gestures

By default, swiping up or down on the gestures screen will change volume. There are 22 gestures in total, view and customize them from the app.

Setup

Adding Nexus Player to your Harmony setup

  1. Launch the Harmony Express app and tap Edit Setup.
  2. Next, tap + to perform a Wi‑Fi scan, and select your device.
    • If your device isn't found, ensure it's on the same Wi-Fi network as Harmony Express.
    • If you still have issues, reboot your device and router then try again.
  3. Tap Continue and follow the on-screen prompts.

Control

Voice

You can use your voice to send commands such as turn on, turn off, and more. Tap What to say in the Harmony Express app to see sample commands for your device. Launching apps using your voice is not supported for this device.

Remote

Although Harmony has already mapped default commands to your remote buttons, you have the ability to assign custom commands to them. For more information, see: Customizing physical buttons on your remote

Amazon

Browser

Direction Pad Navigation will navigate the Browser app.

Media Keys are not used within the Browser app.

Integration details

Harmony Express remotes Hub‑based remotes

Harmony Hub pairs and controls Nexus Player using your home Wi‑Fi network. Please ensure your Nexus Player is connected to the same home network as your Harmony hub. Your Harmony hub and Wii must be within 15 feet, or 5 meters, of each other. However, they do not require direct line of site.

Harmony Express pairs and controls Nexus Player using your home Wi‑Fi network. Please ensure your Nexus Player is connected to the same home network as your Harmony blaster. Your Harmony blaster and Wii must be within 15 feet, or 5 meters, of each other. However, they do not require direct line of site.
